Frigate Bird...Keeping the Wonder

The 'Frigate Bird' from our patio
With a magnificent view of 'Banderas Bay', I often find myself sitting on our patio enjoying the sights. There is a view of our local neighborhood below, the city and mountains around, then the ocean and sky straight ahead and above. Though there is a perpetual hope to see whales or dolphins, it is the 'Frigate Bird' that never fails. Sometimes I have to look far or other times to amazing heights, but never fail, they are ALWAYS in flight.

How interesting it is that I often tire of the routine of life. Why is it then that I have yet to tire of watching the Frigate Bird?

A soaring beauty...
Also called 'Man-of-War' by the British, they are said to have the greatest wing-span (up to six feet) per their body weight which allows them to soar as if forever. Studies have found them in flight even as long as '12' days. Seldom have I watched them when they're even flapping their wings. Most often they just soar. Compare them to the Hummingbird which can be as light as a penny, with wing speeds as much as 50+ per 'second. What a vast difference that our Creator has given to 'winged' animals!...And to our delight and wonder.

Might I encourage you to take a few moments in your day to observe? The Creator has left so many 'fingerprints' of His magnificent creation. Sometimes the only ingredient we need to add is 'wonder'.

Isaiah leaves us with this thought in verse 40:31, "They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." ESV. Perhaps Isaiah would have used the Frigate Bird if they were part of his daily life. Though I must admit, the Eagle surely is easier on the eyes.
