Karen my fire-wife, I Thank You!

SHIFT 17...Rick's ReFlections of his 32 years career in the Fire Service...

Karen and Rick...the way we were...1979
Genesis 2:20 says, “Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement." I like this translation from the ‘Holman’ bible. Definitely good to not be alone…definitely good to have a ‘helper’…and one that is a ‘complement’…what a blessing! That same word for ‘help/helper’ is used often in Psalms, such as 121:1-2, “I will lift my eyes unto the hills from where my help comes, my help comes from the Lord”. God, who is my help, created my wife to be a help/helper. How awesome is that?

Karen and Rick...the way we are...2010
Karen, you have been a great ‘help’ and a wonderful ‘complement’ to me. Your support while working at the fire house these 32 years…Priceless! During my travels to school in the lower 48 while living in Alaska…my three month jaunt to Kansas City for my internship…my journeys to the Sudan, Uzbekistan, Central America and Sri Lanka with MTI…our FD trip to assist after Katrina…and I would be amiss to not mention the countless shifts (many doubles, i.e. 48 hour shifts) where you stood in the gap for our home, our children and the many mishaps that would occur. Many times when I would question whether I should travel, you always gave your support, your confirmation that it was the right thing. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! There is nothing more that I could say but…THANK YOU!

As we both look forward with great anticipation of the coming days and years...I leave you my dear on this…New Years Day 2013…with a special song from our beginning over 33 years ago.
